Gordon is located in the eastern part of Sheridan County, 14 miles from South Dakota and 106 miles from Wyoming.
Gordon is home to the annual Willow Tree Festival, in honor of the lone willow tree which still stands today, that served as a landmark for cattle drivers before the village was built.
The area's unique geology provides an ideal environment for the Ogallala Aquifer to bubble up from underground springs, forming hundreds of fresh water lakes.
Once home to millions of free roaming bison, the Sandhills still bear the signs of the majestic migrating herds that made "wallows" in the low lying marshes where they would roll to cool off.
Hundreds of spring-fed lakes in the Sandhills provide crucial mid-continent habitat to many species of migrating birds such as Canadian geese, cranes, pelicans, swans, ducks and gulls.
Just about any road here provides a rare excursion through a land as close to untouched as you're likely to find anywhere else.
...where skies are endless, and provide an ever-changing backdrop to a world more serene.
Did you know Nebraska has more miles of rivers than any other state? The Niobrara River has long been a favorite recreational waterway for area residents and visitors.
The Niobrara River, so named by the Omaha Sioux, meaning "Wide-Spreading Water," is approximately 568 miles long, and an important tributary to the Missouri River.
Mostly shallow and sandy-bottomed, the winding Niobrara is a wonderful river to tube on a lazy summer day.
The Nebraska Sandhills is the top beef-producing area in the United States, comprising more than 10 million acres of open range and pastureland.
Beef production and its peripheral enterprises make up the area's economy and culture.
Steeped in tradition as old as these hills, the Sandhills people are known for their independence, generosity, dry humor, stoic nature...
...and no-nonsense perspective.
