AUTHOR’S NOTE:

About This 10th Anniversary Edition

A decade ago, I set out to write a story that directly confronted the painful realities of racism and the long history of attempted genocide perpetrated against the First Nations people of the U.S., and to champion the vital journey toward healing and unity. Originally published under the title, No Dogs or Indians, my intent with choosing such a raw and shocking title was to provoke deep thought about these historical divides.

Over the last ten years, conversations about language, history, and healing have evolved in many ways, and I have listened closely to my readers. While the original title was meant to expose the ugliness of prejudice, I have since come to the realization that true healing requires us to elevate symbols of strength rather than repeat words of division.

To honor the true spirit of this story and celebrate a decade of shared journeys with my readers, this edition comes to you with the new name Medicine Horse. In many traditions, the Medicine Horse represents healing, purpose, spiritual power, and the courage to carry us through difficult terrain. It is a symbol of moving forward that beautifully captures the deepest heartbeat of this story.

Complimentary Novella

The prequel to Medicine Horse, this novella was written as a doorway into the world of that novel – a quieter glimpse of what came before the larger story unfolds.
